Celebrating the Holidays in Charleston


Charleston is a magical city. There’s no question about it. But when the holiday season rolls around, there’s something extra special in the air. Maybe it’s the welcomed arrival of the crisp, cool weather after the heat of summer. Or maybe it’s just the spring in everyone’s step as they walk down King Street eagerly taking in the festive window displays at some of their favorite stores. Regardless of the reason, there’s no denying it. Charleston comes alive during the holidays.

Here are some of the many events around that you can enjoy in the Holy City during the Holiday season.

Thanksgiving Dinner at Charleston Grill: Enjoy your Thanksgiving meal at a Charleston institution. Charleston Grill is offering a beautifully prepared Thanksgiving dinner at its iconic downtown location in the Charleston Place hotel. Turkey Day Run & Gobble Wobble 5K: What would Thanksgiving be without the annual Turkey Day Run & Gobble Wobble? Luckily we don’t have to find out. Head to Marion Square at 9:00 a.m. on Thanksgiving and enjoy the race, music, family activities and more! Find out all the details here.

Tree Lighting Ceremony: It may not be Rockefeller Center, but Charleston’s iconic tree lighting ceremony is still something to behold. Head over to Marion Square at 4:30 p.m. on December 6 to watch the Holy City kick of the Christmas season in style!

King Street Holiday Shop & Stroll: If you need to get some holiday shopping done, mark December 12 down on your calendars. Eighty of Charleston’s finest retailers will be opening their doors from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. for a special evening of shopping and holiday celebration. Get your tickets here!

Holiday Magic: Visit with the Clauses: Nothing says Christmas quite like a visit with the man himself. Head out to Marion Square on December 12 and 19 with the kids so they can visit with Mr. and Mrs. Claus!

33rd Annual Holiday Parade of Boats: Charleston is a boating town and even the cool weather won’t keep residents from enjoying some time on the water. Head down to the harbor on December 13 to watch the city celebrate the holiday in true Charlestonian form: on the water. The parade of boats is a must see for anyone spending the season in the city.

19th Annual Christmas Light Parade & Tree Lighting: On December 14, more than 100 floats will take to Coleman Boulevard in Mount Pleasant in what promises to be an unforgettable afternoon. And if you stick around until sundown you can enjoy some festive holiday fireworks too! Learn all about it here!

Moscow Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcracker: Beautiful and timeless. The Nutcracker has long been a staple for the holiday season. This year, on Christmas Eve, Charleston will welcome the renowned Moscow Ballet company for their performance of Tchaikovsky’s epic work. Take the family out to the North Charleston Performing Arts Center for a show that will be a holiday memory not soon forgotten. Reserve your tickets here before they sell out!
